Beadwork Magazine Exclusive - Feb/Mar 2010

The inspiration for this design came from a piece of lace. I loved the delicate look of it and thought it would be fun to create a necklace that looked like lace. The pearl rendition especially mimics lace. The word quartet is derived from the Latin word quartus which means a group or set of four. The strings connecting each quartet are beaded with small seed beads. I also love the play on words with the terminology String Quartet. A String Quartet is a classical musical ensemble of four string instruments which brings forth delicate notes leading to a delightful experience enjoyed by the listener. I hope you delight in making and wearing this piece!

Skill Level: String Quartet Collar is a simple necklace featuring open work that is created using right angle weave and netting. This design is great for a beginner seed bead weaver however students must be comfortable using a needle and thread. Tip: It is easiest to keep tension firm by using waxed thread as you stitch this piece.
