Spring in the North Carolina mountains brings the emergence of the ferns unrolling themselves upward into a splendor of lacy green. Each fiddle head sprout teasing the winter weary spirit with the anticipation of spring.
The fern leaves are made up of 6 colors of 11/0 beads and the matching 6 colors of 15/0 beads. There is a gradation of color going from dark to light within each leaflet. The core of the frond is right angle weave and each leaflet is a combination of square stitch and a picot edging. The frond surface is then embellished down the center to hide the square stitch threads and provide visual weight. There are three sizes of leaflet: large, medium and small.
